Yukka
Early in 90s, in a small town called Zevenaar were formed a band named "Yukka". The band won a local Pop award (SoosPopPrijs) in 1993, which enabled them to to record their first demo-tape.By this time two of the members of the band had moved to Enschede. And they had wisely decided to look for a good singer. The three wise men from the East of the Netherlands found him personified in a boy, Jasper. This boy only aged 17 (in 1995), was already the proud owner of an enormous mouth, physically, as well as literally. But the sound coming out of it was ok and Yukka had found their new singer. Within two months the four of them won the Grote prijs van Drienerlo, another pop award. So now, they had money. So now, they recordeda new demo-tape called "Stereo".
Yukka are somewhere between grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and the more melancholic sounding bands like Radiohead, The Manic Street Preachers and Smashing Pumpkins. Recordings in 1997 ("Out of Man") shows that. By now it is 1999 and the CD "Insane, baby" shows that Yukka have created their own sound with strong accessible songs, without getting predictable.
Yukka is:
Jasper Slaghuis - Vocals/guitar
Arjan Brentjes - Guitar/vocals
Martijn Slagt - Bass
Jeroen Slagt - Drums/vocals
