Alpha are Corin Dingley and Andy Jenks, two Bristol, England based songwriters and producers. Friends of Massive Attack.They have worked on various Bristol based projects, including the Statik Sound System and Sugarboat.Both members of Alpha share an obsession with obscure film soundtracks and forgotten singers and songs, as well as the naked, bitter-sweet tragedies ofJacques Brel and traditional American songwriters like Jimmy Webb and LeeHazelwood.
Signed to Massive's label Melankolic, Alpha's debut album "Come From Heaven" is furnished with vocal sections that will make your hair stand on for weeks. It is a collection of strange and haunting contemporized songs, united by a smoky, after-hours feel that sounds both vaguely familiar yet utterly new. Intimate lyricism with rich, ornate arrangements. Alpha eventually grew out of their commitment to creating what is basically a merging of the traditional song form with today's post-Hip Hop school of composition.
