Squarepusher

Born Tom Jenkinson in 1975 in Chelmsford, Essex, England, Squarepusher has quickly risen through the ranks of the electronica elite to become one of the genre's most promising talents. The son of a jazz drummer, Jenkinson grew up listening to records by Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Art Blakey and learned to play bass and drums starting at age 12. By his mid-teens, techno groups like LFO had pulled him onto the electronic path and he soon developed a unique style of jazz house and post-acid breakbeats. The mix of jungle and jazz that often incorporated his live fretless bass playing won him raves in the U.K. experimental-techno home listening scene. In 1995 he released his debut EP, Conumber, followed closely by the Port Rhombus EP in 1996. Squarepusher's debut full-length, Feed Me Weird Things, appeared later that year. In 1997, Squarepusher released the Vic Acid EP as well as the jazzier Hard Normal Daddy album on Warp Records. In 1998 he signed to Nothing Records and late in the year released both Music Is Rotted One Note and the mini-album Big Loada.
